Why am I being charged sales tax?
As a Marketplace Facilitator, GearSource is required to calculate, collect and remit sales tax for any location where we have nexus. If we have not met the threshold in that location, taxes are not applicable.
Are there exemptions from sales tax?
- Yes, if you have a valid Resale Certificate from the state you are being charged sales tax in or a current Sales Tax Exemption Form that can be verified.
- One of the above options must be uploaded to your account before the order is placed. Our finance team will verify the information and approve the certificate/form. This will allow you to proceed without sales tax being charged.
What determines the sales tax rate?
- Sales Tax is determined by the delivery address of the order and is calculated at the appropriate tax rate for that location.
- There is not one set tax rate, every location is different. GearSource uses a tax program to confirm all taxes are calculated correctly with the most up to date and current rates.
I placed an order but have an exemption:
- If an order is placed before a resale certificate or exemption is added to the account, it will need to be cancelled and placed again only after the certificate/exemption is approved.
- Taxes cannot be removed/modified from the order once you have gone through the checkout process.
