Tariffs and duties

Tariffs and duties are a tax on imported goods, paid by the person or company who is importing them.

When you place an order on GearSource.com, import duties, tariffs and the applicable taxes are NOT included. The Buyer is responsible for complying with all import regulations and paying the fees and taxes applicable when the goods you purchase cross a border. GearSource advises Buyers to work with a qualified Customs Broker to make sure your order crosses the border safely and quickly and that you are complaint with all regulations.

A Customs Broker is an expert in the applicable laws, tariffs, duties and taxes of that country and will ensure your shipment clears the border without disruptions. Among other things, they handle the required documentation/declarations, the proper classification of the goods, verify all compliances, and handle all tariff and duty calculations. Please note: based on the Tariff code many different rules and compliances come into play when goods are imported, including country of origin (where the goods were originally manufactured).

Without a qualified Customs Broker, you would be responsible for researching these complex regulations, classifying products correctly, making sure you are compliant, etc. For a non-expert, this can easily lead to costly mistakes, like using the wrong tariff code or forgetting a required document. It can also have significant financial consequences, including fines for non-compliance, paying extra duties that could have been avoided, or even potential legal action in severe cases. Beyond immediate costs, mistakes can severely disrupt your delivery timelines.

GearSource and our staff are NOT Customs Brokers and, therefore, we are not able to assist in the import process or with the calculation or collection of import taxes or fees. Our team will provide guidance in finding a Customs Broker if you do not already have one. Also, most International carriers provide Customs services. Feel free to reach out to our team any time for more information or contact your local Border Services.
